Early Life and Education

Sophie Duker was born in 1990 as the daughter of Ghanaian parents who moved to the UK for their postgraduate studies and later became academics. Living in South London (first Croydon, then Catford), she was brought up in a strict, high-achieving family where education was a must.
On a scholarship, she went to Dulwich College before studying French & English at Wadham College, Oxford (2008–2012). It was at Oxford that she found her love for comedy through the Oxford Imps improv troupe and the Oxford Revue, and in the meantime, she was also performing at the Edinburgh Fringe. After finishing her degree, she did some English teaching in Paris and worked in marketing for a while, but she eventually gave in to the lure of comedy.
Career

Sophie’s first hour, Venus, with which she made her professional breakthrough in 2018, won the Funny Women Stage Award and was also nominated for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. The show (a journey through Black femininity, the myth of Aphrodite, and the reclamation of “slut”) was met with great critical and audience acclaim and therefore had a successful run at Soho Theatre.
Her subsequent productions Hag (2021) and Wacky Racists (2023) both achieved four- and five-star reviews, with Hag being recorded as an Amazon Prime special of 2022. In 2025, she debuted her fourth hour, But Daddy I Love Her!, at Edinburgh, a riotous, ecstatic dismantling of the politics of respectability and interracial dating that not only sold out its entire run but also got another Best Show nomination.
Also known as the winner of Taskmaster Series 13 (2022), Regular on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, QI, Hypothetical, and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order, Mock the Week, and The Last Leg, Co-host of Channel 4’s Riot Girls (2022) and presenter of the BBC’s Growing Up Black season (2023), Created and starred in the BBC Three pilot Yesterday, Today & The Day Before (2021), Host of the award-winning podcast GrownUpLand (BBC Sounds, 2018–2020).
In 2025, Sophie Duker became a panel member on the rebooted Never Mind the Buzzcocks and also shot her second Prime special.
Contributed a monthly sex and relationships column to Vice, performed in the 2024 film Wicked Little Letters alongside Olivia Colman, and started the live night Wacky Racists at Soho Theatre (currently monthly). 2025–2026 But Daddy, I Love Her! The UK tour has already sold out over 70 dates, including the London Palladium in May 2026.

Personal Life

Sophie Duker is a queer person, and amusingly, she frequently talks about her dating fiascos with both males and females. Although she keeps her present relationship status a secret, she has mentioned a long-term partner in her recent interviews.
She stays in South London with her parents and younger sister, and she is still very much a part of her Ghanaian heritage (speaking Twi fluently and visiting family in Accra quite often). Besides that, she talks openly about therapy, ADHD (she was diagnosed in 2023), and she is one of a few Black women in the UK comedy industry who tell the reality without sugarcoating it.
Controversy
The only significant “controversy” of a kind to speak of was in 2021, where it happened that a 2019 fragment from the New World Order by Frankie Boyle was brought back to life, and in that fragment, she was ironically suggesting “killing all white men” in a segment about white feminism, which was quite clearly a satire.
It was framed as real by right-wing sources, which triggered a short tabloid storm. Sophie Duker answered with a quiet, well-received statement telling about the setting and the nature of satire, and in the end, the moment was not a loss but rather a gain for her.
Net Worth
Sophie Duker’s Net worth is between £500,000 and £1.2 million pounds sterling approximately, and the main reasons behind it are her sold-out live shows, Amazon specials, regular TV appearances, and corporate gigs.
By the middle of 2026, it will be very comfortable for her to be able to go beyond the million mark when she will be headlining the Palladium and doing her second Prime special.
Conclusion
From Oxford sketches to the Palladium stage, Sophie Duker has become one of the liveliest, most energetic voices of the UK comedy scene, and the reasons are quite self-evident (she is humorous, dirty, fiercely intelligent, and it is not possible to overlook her).
At 35, she is not only winning people’s laughter but also their thinking, awkwardness, and cheering simultaneously. The future of UK comedy is looking like it is going to be Sophie Duker.
