The Rise And Downfall of Lyta

Lyta Music Carrer: The Rise And Downfall 0f The Musical Talent

What Happened To Lyta And the Cause Of His Downfall?

Lyta was one of the best young musical talents at the time of the breakout. His songs “Time“, and  “Selfmade” had a way of piercing the soul of every listener. Being under the tutelage of Olamide, he was destined to become one of the legendary acts that the Nigerian music scene would witness.

Fast forward to 2024, only little can be said about the career of Lyta. What went wrong? Follow us, as we dissect the musical career of Lyta.

This article will look at the past and present musical endeavors of Lyta through the different musical stages he has been on. This article promises to be interesting, don’t miss reading a word. Let’s get started!

Dubbed As Next Street King

In 2018, when Lyta got signed to YBNL Nation, he was dubbed as the next street king. The reason for the hype was obvious because YBNL Nation was famous for giving the street artistes the spotlight and ensuring that they recorded hit singles that the street could dance to.

Just like everyone else, Lyta was put into that same process with others who have come into the record label. Shortly after putting pen to paper, he became almost everybody’s favorite when he released his breakthrough single, “Time”. The song which became an instant hit featured rap verses from YBNL Nation boss, Olamide.

Following the success of that single, Lyta began to “live up” to the hype. From the outside, everything seems to be working well for both Lyta and YBNL Nation. However, between the two parties, it was the beginning of friction. The fairytale between the two parties didn’t last for long as shortly, the calling out began!

The Unprecedented Split

In 2019, it was reported that Lyta had left YBNL Nation. From the artiste’s camp, it was revealed that there was no paperwork binding the YBNL Nation and Lyta together. The statements made by Lyta during this period suggested that YBNL Nation only had a word-of-mouth agreement with the artiste. How often does that happen?!

From the YBNL Nation camp, the reason for the split was that he did not follow the official promotion timetable for artistes under YBNL Nation. According to reports that came from the YBNL Nation camp, Lyta wanted the freedom to release his single at any time, under his conditions, and hence, did not respect the timetable. Can you imagine that?!

A once beautiful union was brought to an end by an unprecedented issue. Well, both parties moved on after the split. On the part of YBNL Nation, the signing of Fireboy was made shortly after. However, for him, things didn’t go exactly how he wanted it.

The Monalisa Phase

In 2019, after the split from YBNL Nation, Lyta signed with Doro Musik Gang. It wasn’t so long after his signing that he released “Monalisa”. Shortly after its release, the song became a nationwide hit. The song got massive airplay from radio stations and TV stations all over the country.

The video which was shot by Director K had over 500,000 views in its first month. Looking from the outside, everything seemed to be going as planned in his first year as a Doro Musik Gang signee. A new record deal, independence as an artiste, a new production team, what else could Lyta ask for?

The success of the “Monalisa” rave caught up with Davido. Yes, Davido hopped on the record. That’s not all, Davido sponsored the music video of the “Monalisa Remix”. It was reported that Davido covered the flight expenses for him in order for both artistes to shoot the video in Dakar, Senegal.

No doubt, He got the exposure and money he wanted following the remarkable feat reached by the original “Monalisa” and “Monalisa Remix” records.

New Marlians Chapter

In a yet-to-be-revealed report that arose in 2020, Lyta dumped Doro Musik Gang and joined Marlians Music. Could it be that he yearned for the company he lost while in YBNL and didn’t find that at Doro Musik Gang? or Did his contract expire? We don’t know yet!

We know that Lyta became a part of Marlian Music and got featured in a record label group song. In a song titled “Are You Sure?”, Lyta along with Naira Marley, Mohbad, and Zinoleesky contributed vocals in that song which was registered under the imprints of Marlians Music.

Slowly, the prominence Lyta got while at YBNL Nation and Doro Musik Gang began to fade. At Marlians Music, all four artistes faced competition and often struggled for the spotlight, which further pushed Lyta’s talent below the pecking order.

In that same year, things got worse for Lyta when he faced criticisms for illegally sampling the video of GOT7’s video in his song “Hold Me Down”. Not much was revealed about the settlement of this issue. In fact, after this event, little was done by Lyta in the music scene.

Forgotten Hero

After a long hiatus from the Nigerian music industry, He once again was on the lips of Nigerian music lovers. Yes, but this time, was for the wrong reason. In a video that circulated in April 2024, Lyta was captured performing in a poorly set-up event in Ilorin, Kwara State.

What was bad wasn’t the fact that he performed in a hood, but that he fell off to the point where he could only be invited to local community events. This video sparked conversation all over social media to the extent that some netizens suggested that he return to his first love, YBNL Nation.

Furthermore, Lyta, in recent times has been called out by his baby mama, Kemi Ayorinde, on her social media accounts for the wrong reasons. In a recent post, she accused him of transferring Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) to her and her baby. This is bad publicity!

The question now is; Can Lyta Overcome This Bad Streak And Return To His Best Form?

Conclusion

The rise and fall of Lyta is one that every upcoming artiste can learn from. The once-dubbed future street king is now in a career struggle.

It feels so sad seeing him struggle this much after rising so high in the entertainment industry. Any lessons can be drawn that you can learn from. Don’t read this alone, kindly share it with others now!
