Psquare is a household name in the Nigerian music industry. They have contributed immensely to the growth of music in the country. From providing top-charting songs to attracting foreign acts, Psquare had established itself in the music industry.

Recently, there has been news of a rift between the twins. One of them claimed to be cheated while the other parades himself as innocent. We would not be the judge of who was right or wrong. This article will elaborate on the things we can conclude from the ongoing Psquare’s rift.

Overview of Psquare

Peter and Paul Okoye, identical twin brothers from Nigeria, make up the R&B group P-Square. The duo also comprise their senior brother, Jude. Jude Okoye oversaw Northside Entertainment operations and was mostly in charge of filming their music videos.

Paul Okoye was the group’s main songwriter and producer. He wrote the group’s compelling love songs because he had an innate love for R&B.

Peter Okoye, on the other hand, was more passionate about dancing. He was in charge of the group’s choreography. He was also responsible for providing ad-lib vocals to the group’s songs.

1. Peter Okoye: A Singer 

Everyone can attest to the fact that Peter Okoye was the lead dancer in Psquare’s group. But is Peter Okoye singing? In his open letter to his brother, Peter had suggested that he had co-written some of their songs.

Peter Okoye is always seen in the background dancing to his brother’s song. Peter Okoye has never had any issues admitting that his brother is the better singer. We know this because he clearly stated: “praised his brother in an interview for his songwriting ability”. 

Peter Okoye claimed that he had written some of Psquare smashing hits like “Personally”, “Bizzy Body”, “Temptation” and so on. If you listen carefully to Psquare’s songs he is always heard giving ad-libs vocals to their tracks.

Unknowingly, many fans hastily concluded that all the songs were written by Paul. Thanks to Peter’s letter, we know that twins have amazing songwriting abilities.

2. Always Audit and Reconcile Accounts

The root of the issue between the twins had to do with money. One party felt that they were cheated in the transaction. While the other feels very comfortable with his share. Peter being the former had felt that their deal was not transparent enough.

According to him, Paul didn’t feel any fuss about the money siphoned to a strange account. Peter never knew that he was being played until he realized ‘millions of dollars’ were moved without his consent to Jude’s account.

All this would have been settled if the brothers had regularly audited their accounts. This requires all parties to examine the total amount coming into the organization. Not only observing but having an equitable share that covers all members of the group.

If there would be any need to divert the money to another source, then it should be agreed upon. If all this had been done then there would have been no need to involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

3. Avoid Jude Okoye

Jude Okoye is one of the well-respected people in the entertainment industry. However, this isn’t the first time Jude has been in a controversy. One such is the case with Cynthia Morgan. Cynthia claimed that Jude had ripped her off her royalties while she was signed to his label.

She even cried on her live video that her bank account had been hijacked by Jude Okoye. However, Jude Okoye later revealed that he was just concerned with recouping the N40 million he invested in Cynthia.

Back to Psquare. In Psquare’s deal with Jude Okoye, Peter had claimed to be marginalized. According to him, he claimed that his twin brother and Jude had cheated him. This was because the secret company created by Jude Okoye called Northside Music had many diversions unknown to him.

He further said Jude and his wife were directors of the said company. As a result, this prompted him to call the authorities to investigate the firm.

4. Individual Does Not Surpass Group

Paul and Peter Okoye have had amazing numbers when it comes to individual songs. Talking about Paul, his songs titled ‘Reason With Me’ boast over 200 million streams on YouTube. It also has over 5 million streams on multiple streaming platforms.

His song ‘Audio Money’ released in 2021 boasts over 3 million streams on different streaming platforms. Peter on the other hand has smashing hits songs too. His debut song ‘Cool It Down’ attracted a good number of streams from various platforms. He also has a dedicated fanbase that appreciates his sounds.

Although the brothers are doing well as solo artiste. How do they compare to Psquare? Psquare in their prime were the most booked artiste in their generation. They are the most awarded group in the whole of Africa. Talking about the streams, Psquare had the most played songs on different music channels in Nigeria.

The duo also sold the most albums during their time. According to Peter, they sold out stadiums and arenas both home and abroad. Psquare was also one of the musicians that attracted the biggest American talent such as Rick Ross, T.I, and Akon.

Conclusion

The fans can only expect the duo to be back. There have been rumors that presidential candidate, Peter Obi had intervened in their ongoing beef following the pictures and videos posted by both twins on their various social media handles.

Although, this is not confirmed. Psquare is the best group in Africa. They have singlehandedly made Nigerian music global. We expect them to bury the hatchet and make peace. Brothers don’t fight for too long, we are patiently hoping they settle their rifts and dialogue.
