Black Sherif Background 

Mohammed Ismail Sherif, popularly known as Black Sherif, was born on January 9, 2002. He was raised in Ghana, Ashanti region precisely. 

Unlike other children, Black Sherif’s parents lived abroad. So he was left to live with his aunt and other members of his family. 

His upbringing was very different from that of a normal child. Black Sherif was in charge of taking care of the ranch. This ranch was home to different sheep, cattle, and goats. He was a herdsman at a young age. 

Due to the nature of this job, he will have to travel with these animals from one place to another. Thereby exposing him to different cultures and religions in Ghana.

Black Sherif Education 

Blacko started his learning at Konongo Zongo Islamic School. This school was an Islamic School that imbibed Sherif with the knowledge of the Qur’an. 

For his secondary school, he attended the Pinamang Educational Complex. Then he completed his Senior Secondary School at Kumasi Academy in Ghana.

At Kumasi Academy, he picked up an interest in music. His interest in music further increased when he attended the University of Ghana in 2022.

Sherif is from a humble background. As mentioned earlier, he has rare livestock to feed. This was not easy for Sherif as he wanted to be a musician. Pushing through, he released a freestyle video talking about his struggles on the street.

The title of the freestyle was known as ‘First Sermon’. Although this song was not his first he gave it a try because of the vibe at the studio.

The reception of Sherif’s ‘First Sermon’ was incredible. His fans commended him for this new sound because his previous songs were always on a low-tempo beat.

Seeing the reception, he decided to create another song similar to ‘First Sermon’. The song’s sequel, “Second Sermon,” was released in July of that same year. 

Just like the previous song, ‘Second Sermon’ got even bigger. The track caught the whole of Ghana by surprise. It became the number-one song in Ghana in 2021. Later on, Ligue 1 players in France were captured dancing to the “Second Sermon” track too.

Poco Lee, being a good friend of Blacko Sherif, sent the song to Burna Boy. Immediately, Burna Boy loved the song and decided to call Blacko. The purpose of this call was to advise him not to give up.

Not long after that, Burna Boy told him of his intentions to remix the song. In no time, the remix dropped. Burna Boy went as far as paying for the video shoot and studio time for Black Sherif!

In 2022, Black-Sherif released “Kweku The Traveler”. The song, similar to “Second Sermon” broke different records.

After its release, it became the number 1 song on the Ghanaian and Nigerian music charts. In October 2022, he released his album titled “The Villain I Never Was”.
